THE TREATMENT

Activator Methods Technique:

The Activator technique consists of using a hand held instrument called an Activator, that delivers a precise controlled impulse force into a misaligned (subluxated) joint or to provide a stimulus to the brain to help restore cortical balance.  Once the spine and extremities have been assessed and corrected, this part of your treatment will be complete.

If the cortical imbalance has been there for a long time, the corrections will only hold for a short period before being pulled back to their ‘usual’ misaligned position by the surrounding muscles and ligaments.  Repeated adjustments will restore the cortical balance and alleviate your symptoms.  The number of adjustments that are required will greatly depend on how long the cortical imbalance has been there and what (if any) inappropriate activities you do in between treatments.

Sacro-Occipital Technique:

The SOT technique  consists of lying on specially designed wedge shaped blocks that are placed under your pelvis and hips.  With the blocks in place, the weight of your own body will rotate and reposition the pelvis and sacrum back to its natural alignment.  The blocks are only in position for a short time before they are removed and this part of the treatment is complete.

Flexion-Distraction Technique:

The Cox technique consists of a gentle distraction (traction) of the lumbar spine on a specially designed treatment table that flexes (hinges down).  Traction of the lumbar spine will separate the lumbar vertebra and either mobilise any ‘fixed’ joints and allow any bulging/slipped discs to be de-stressed.

Thompson Technique:

Developed originally by Dr. Clay. Thompson in 1957. He discovered pelvic displacement patterns and a correlation between pelvic displacements and a difference of leg length. The spine and pelvic adjustments are assisted by the use of what is known as a 'drop piece' which requires less force to align the pelvis, sacrum and lumbar spine during an adjustment.

Percussion:

An electrical percussor/massager is used to vibrate the joints of the spine, hips or shoulders.  This will provided a different kind of stimulus to a specific part of the brain.
