This clinic operates in association with The Tinsley House Group of practitioners and works closely with
Dr Robin Pauc, chiropractic neurologist and author of the book “Is That My Child and The Brain Food Plan. The registered practitioners are a group of chiropractors that have undertaken additional training in neurology and meet regularly as a group to further their knowledge and skills in this area of work. The Tinsley House chiropractors have a special interest in treating children, particularly those who have previously been diagnosed with Developmental Delay Syndrome, such as, dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADD and ADHD.
The process of conception and development of the foetus within the womb is relatively well understood. Even in this safe environment, the development of the baby can be greatly affected by the ingestion of foods (good and bad), toxins breathed in (cigarette smoke) and of course, the genetic influences of each parent.
New neurons need to make contact with existing neurons via their dendrite ‘branches’ and also require continual stimulation. If either process is compromised by genetics, toxins or a traumatic birth, then the new neuron cells will under function or die, and so influence the size and ‘intelligence’ of the child’s brain at birth.
The brain is very complex and any part of the brain may be affected. These may include the pre-frontal cortex, the cerebellum, the dentate gyrus, the temporal lobe, the parietal lobe, the anterior and mid-cingulated gyrus. Each of these areas have specific functions, and when they are under functioning, the typical signs of memory loss, poor coordination, poor concentration, poor handwriting, temper tantrums etc are displayed in the child.
Fortunately, there is a ‘window of opportunity’ to increase the function of the deficient parts of the brain. This size of this ‘window’ will reduce as the child ages and is ideally treated before the age of ten or eleven years of age. This is not to say that older children cannot be helped or have their brain function improved, but the chances of an ideal outcome will begin to diminish with age.
Our treatment approach combines advice about nutrition, chiropractic treatment of the spine or extremities and home-based exercise. We use a range of assessment tools, including chiropractic, orthopaedic and neurological testing methods. Parents of children being treated by these methods have often noticed significant improvements in behaviour and function as a result of this treatment approach.
