Chiropractic is a profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions which are due to mechanical dysfunction of joints, particularly those of the spine, and their effects on the nervous system. After undergoing extensive studies with the renowned Carrick Institute in clinical neurology, James can now treat the more complicated neurologically based conditions, as well as the usual common low back, neck and shoulder aches etc.
He will not only assess your joints, muscles etc, but also the function of your brain. When the diagnosis has been made, he will then apply his skills in this new and exciting area of clinical neurology.
If one side of the brain is under-functioning, this will reduce the tone of the muscle ie. they become weaker. If one half of the body has less tone (is weaker than the other side), then the chances of straining a muscle, spraining a ligament, slipping a disc or putting a 'joint out of place', are greatly increased.
Unfortunately, the 'full picture' is a bit more complicated than this.In compensation for the 'weak' side, muscles on the other side may become hypertonic ie. increased muscle tension. This can also produce symptoms of muscle pain or nerve entrapment, causing pins and needles/numbness.
During your examination, we will determine what part of your brain is under-functioning and which joints/muscles are dysfunctional, using various neurological and orthopaedic tests. From these results we will determine which type of stimulation and which joints are to be adjusted, that would be most effective for your particular condition.
A variety of low and high velocity chiropractic adjustments are adopted at this clinic, and include Sacro-Occipital, Activator and Diversified techniques. The causes of the under-functioning cortical hemisphere will be addressed and a rehabilitation exercise programme will be given to aid the treatment and restore cortical balance. Some of the more common conditions that we treat are:
Headaches: migraines, muscular tension, neck related etc.
Face Pain: temporomandibular joint disorder, trigeminal neuralgia etc.
Development Delay Syndrome: As aTinsley House practitioner, I have a special interest in treating children, particularly those who have previously been diagnosed with Developmental Delay Syndrome, such as, dyslexia, dyspraxia, attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD).
