WHAT WE TREAT

 Picture

Chiropractic is a profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions which are due to mechanical dysfunction of joints, particularly those of the spine, and their effects on the nervous system.  After undergoing extensive studies with the renowned Carrick Institute in clinical neurology, James can now treat the more complicated neurologically based conditions, as well as the usual common low back, neck and shoulder aches etc.

He will not only assess your joints, muscles etc, but also the function of your brain.  When the diagnosis has been made, he will then apply his skills in this new and exciting area of clinical neurology.

If one side of the brain is under-functioning, this will reduce the tone of the muscle ie. they become weaker.  If one half of the body has less tone (is weaker than the other side), then the chances of straining a muscle, spraining a ligament, slipping a disc or putting a 'joint out of place', are greatly increased.

Unfortunately, the 'full picture' is a bit more complicated than this.  In compensation for the 'weak' side, muscles on the other side may become hypertonic ie. increased muscle tension.  This can also produce symptoms of muscle pain or nerve entrapment, causing pins and needles/numbness.

During your examination, we will determine what part of your brain is under-functioning and which joints/muscles are dysfunctional, using various neurological and orthopaedic tests.  From these results we will determine  which type of stimulation and which joints are to be adjusted, that would be most effective for your particular condition.

A variety of low and high velocity chiropractic adjustments are adopted at this clinic, and include Sacro-Occipital, Activator and Diversified techniques.  The causes of the under-functioning cortical hemisphere will be addressed and a rehabilitation exercise programme will be given to aid the treatment and restore cortical balance.  Some of the more common conditions that we treat are:

Headaches:  migraines, muscular tension, neck related etc.

Face Pain:  temporomandibular joint disorder, trigeminal neuralgia etc.

Neck Pain:  whiplash, spondylosis, muscular strain, torticolis, thoracic outlet syndrome, joint fixations etc.

Shoulder Pain:  frozen shoulder, shoulder impingement syndrome, muscular imbalance, acromioclavicular etc.

Elbow/arm Pain:  tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, olecranon bursitis, tendinitis, referred pain, trapped nerve etc.

Wrist/hand Pain:  carpal tunnel syndrome, pins & needles, trapped nerve, tendinitis, carpal joint fixation etc.

Back Pain:  spinal joint disorder, slipped disc, muscular strain, osteoarthritis, spondylolisthesis etc.

Buttock Pain:  sacroiliac joint sprain, piriformis syndrome, referred pain, ischial bursitis, trapped nerve etc.

Groin Pain:  osteitis pubis, muscular strain, iliopsoas bursitis, osteoarthritis, snapping hip syndrome etc.

Hip Pain:  osteoarthritis, trochantic bursitis, sciatica, referred pain, trapped nerve, muscular strain etc.

Knee/leg Pain:      Osgood-Schlatter, patella mis-tracking, iliotibial band syndrome, tibial-fibular joint fixation etc.

Ankle/foot Pain:  plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, pronated foot, tarsal tunnel syndrome, ligament sprain etc.

Sports Injuries:  muscle strength imbalance, ligament sprains, muscular strains, poor bio-mechanics, RSI etc.

Neurologically Based Conditions:  twitches, involuntary movements, tinnitus, numbness, clumsy handling, weakness, fatigue, sleep problems, arm/leg sensations, dizziness, vertigo, IBS, autonomic nervous system disorders.

Development Delay Syndrome:  As a Tinsley House practitioner, I have a special interest in treating children, particularly those who have previously been diagnosed with Developmental Delay Syndrome, such as, dyslexia, dyspraxia, attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD).
